The justice system, of America and of the NFL, is supposed to teach people lessons. If that’s the case, here is what I learned from this ordeal:

It’s not rape if the accuser was drinking.

We don’t yet know the details of the accuser’s drinking that night. Nor do we know the specifics of Roethlisberger’s drinking. We may learn some of these details at the news conference on Monday. But we do know that, generally, prosecutors are reluctant to file charges in cases such as this one when the accuser has been drinking.

So, you’re telling me that I can run around all higgledy-piggledy having my way with intoxicated women and I won’t face any consequences? (In the immortal words of Dave Chappelle) Kobe!

Drunk rape victims don’t have any rights, but their word is bond.
With both involved parties conceding intoxication, another reason the case was thrown out was because of the veracity of the accuser’s testimony. Her statement did not corroborate with her friends’ and/or Ben’s. As the district attorney, I know you’ve spent years in educational institutions, thus, many-a-night at parties. So, you know full well how nocturnal activities can be changed, forgotten, omitted and/or embellished after a night of libations, right? Right? You also know that your experience and recollection don’t always align with those at the same gatherings, right? Maybe it’s just me.

…yet, he served a couple days in prison and was sent to a halfway house for a month. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger has as many rape raps as Super Bowl rings and is free than a muthaf*cka, smellin’ like college girls’ booty holes (if that last sentence offended you, it was just adaptation of a Katt Williams joke).

The justice system is supposed to be “fair and balanced,” but I guess they are using the FoxNews definition of the term. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell still has a chance to instill his own form of justice into these shenanigans (he has a meeting with the quarterback this week), but I doubt the punishment levied will slake my anger.

Am I off base with my thinking? Am I looking at this completely wrong? What are your feelings on this crap situation?

They are both living legends of their respective sports, with multiple championships to their names and legions of fans who still carry with them vivid memories of watching these two larger-than-life athletes rise to the top of their professions in front of sold-out arenas. Both are iconic examples of the decades in which they excelled (one in the ‘70s, the other in the ‘80s), yet neither has gotten the proper recognition they deserve after all these years, for reasons that have been clouded in controversy and speculation. And since neither superstar has ever gotten a much-deserved Hall of Fame induction, I think it’s safe to make the following declaration: Macho Man Randy Savage is the Pete Rose of wrestling!

Peter Edward Rose – nicknamed “Charlie Hustle” as a testament to how hard he played during a career that started in 1963 and ended in 1986 – is the undisputed hits king of baseball, amassing more of them than ANYONE in the history of Major League Baseball: 4,256. It’s a record that probably won’t be broken during the currently 68-year-old Pete Rose’s lifetime, considering that the next guy on the list, Paul Molitor, was still over 900 hits away from tying Rose when Molitor retired in 1998. In addition to that amazing feat, Rose holds the MLB records for most games played (3,562) and most at-bats (14,053). And as a member of the 1970s Cincinnati Reds (a.k.a. The Big Red Machine), he won back-to-back World Series titles (1975-1976), and won his third and final one with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980.

Randy Mario Poffo – better known around the world as Macho Man Randy Savage – is regarded by many fans of old-school professional wrestling (including me) as THE most entertaining wrestler of the 1980s, due not just to his high-flying, fast-paced style of grappling, but also to his colorful ring entrance gear and equally colorful interviews, which were usually punctuated with his simple yet effective catchphrase: “Oh yeah!” As WWF (now known as WWE) Intercontinental Champion, he held the then-record for most consecutive days as champion – an amazing 414 – before being defeated by Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat at 1987’s WrestleMania III in what is arguably the greatest wrestling match of the 1980s. A year later he won the ultimate prize – the WWF Heavyweight Title – in a 14-man tournament at WrestleMania IV, and as champion, his feud with Hulk Hogan over the lovely Miss Elizabeth became the most famous love triangle in wrestling history, culminating in the main event of 1989’s WrestleMania V. In a career that spanned from 1973 to 2004, the soon-to-be 57-year-old “Macho Man” won a wrestling title on 21 different occasions in 9 different organizations.

Yet neither man has been inducted into their sports’ respective Halls of Fame, for reasons that are very clear in Rose’s case, and shrouded in mystery in Savage’s. In 1989, Major League Baseball put Rose on an “ineligibility” list for Hall of Fame induction amid reports that he had bet on Cincinnati Reds games as both a player and a manager of the team, an allegation that Rose denied for many years before finally copping to it in an autobiography that was released  in 2004. Meanwhile, Randy Savage – while not officially barred from entering the WWE Hall of Fame – is inexplicably absent from it, and no one knows exactly why. He is by far the biggest retired superstar of the ‘80s not currently in the Hall, and unless the disturbing online rumors about him sleeping with an underage Stephanie McMahon (daughter of WWE owner Vince McMahon) back in the early ‘90s are true, the WWE should truly be ashamed of itself. (Ironically, Pete Rose was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004, as recognition of his memorable guest appearances at WrestleManias 1998 thru 2000!)

So here’s hoping that before either of these two Living Legends leave us for sold-out arenas in the sky, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and WWE Owner Vince McMahon wake the fuck up and give these two champions the respect that they so richly deserve.
